Background Information
Each August, the Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp in Story City, Iowa, holds its largest fundraiser, a quilt auction. Handmade quilts are donated for the auction by Lutheran churches across the state of Iowa.
Quilt Auction 2009 - Saturday, August 8
Since 2000, Hope Quilters has created and donated a quilt in support of the camp. At auctions in 2004, 2005, and 2007 the quilt made by Hope Quilters sold for the highest auction bid! Praise God, and thanks to the Hopesters who attended to bid on our quilts.
Historically, 180 to more than 200 quilts are auctioned and raise $50,000 to $58,000 to support the camp.

How a Riverside Quilt is Made
In the fall a quilt pattern is selected based on each quilter's interest in the design and its potential appeal to an auction bidder. When the specifics have been agreed upon, each Hope Quilter makes a particular number of quilt blocks using fabrics from her own or Hope Quilters' stash. "Sewing Saturdays" are scheduled to put together the blocks and borders. When the quilt top is completed--by March of each year--the quilt top and backing are sent to a longarm quilter. Upon return, one Hope Quilter machine sews binding to the quilt. A "binding bee" is then scheduled where everyone gathers around the quilt to hand sew a section of binding to the quilt back.
